Concept title sequence I created for a fake TV series called Don't Come Looking – a crime thriller narrative revolving around the unsolved disappearance of a woman who checked into a motel in the 1970s but never checked out.

Selected Frames

Title TreatmentGiven that the show deals with an unsolved missing persons case during the 70s, the typefaces used for titles focused on reflecting the cold and clinical sans-serif type styles commonly seen in government paperwork of the time.

I ended up selecting three different fonts within the Helvetica family: Helvetica Light with Helvetica Bold for the opening credits and Helvetica Condensed Bold for the main title.

Title AnimationsThe sequence introduces viewers to an empty yet disordered motel room moments after something happened.

Was there an altercation? Did someone run away? Who are we looking for?

The visuals bring up more questions than they do answers. To push that unsettling feeling forward, my goal was to make the title animations feel ghost-like and transient.

I took inspiration from a slow-motion video of an old filament incandescent lightbulb flickering on. It’s uncertain, eerie and ephemeral, much like the inconclusive evidence and dead ends investigators encounter in cold cases.
